Update my Content Management System (CMS)

WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and Magento are all examples of Content Management Systems (CMS). These are great for making websites!

Why do I need to keep my CMS updated?

Many users do not realize they need to keep making updates to the CMS to keep the website safe. A CMS is no different than mobile devices and computers: You need to update the CMS regularly to keep up with new security threats, improve performance, and more.

Cybercriminals search for these updates to find vulnerabilities, create code to exploit them, and use that code on sites where the CMS is not regularly updated. If you do not regularly update your CMS, your site is vulnerable.

Related step: Add a firewall

Consider getting a firewall for your site to:

  • Significantly increase the security of your site.
  • Help protect your site from attacks that don’t currently have updates to stop them.
  • Protect your site during the time between when a CMS update is released and when you are able to install it.
